Quick context: Everything about Quicko below is taken from Quicko's own public pages as they stood on 23 September 2026, and everything about VittSphere ONE from its own published feature list. This is not a hands-on test and not a ranking. We publish this blog, and VittSphere ONE is our product — read the comparison with that in mind, and check both sites yourself before deciding. Prices and plans in this category change, often around filing deadlines.
The situation this article is written for is specific. Your family has an HUF, or is about to form one. The HUF has its own PAN, its own bank account and its own demat, and there is trading in it — some delivery equity, perhaps some mutual funds, occasionally more. When the return comes around, two practical questions decide which platform you use:
- Who prepares the HUF's return — you, software, or a professional?
- How does the broker's capital gains statement get into it — import, upload or manual entry?
Quicko and VittSphere ONE both document HUF support publicly, as our ClearTax alternatives comparison noted in August. They go about it differently, and the difference matters more than the feature count.
# What an HUF capital gains return actually needs
Before comparing tools, it helps to be clear about what the tool has to get right.
The right form. An HUF cannot use ITR-1. For the FY 2025-26 returns filed this year, an HUF with capital gains and no business income used ITR-2; one with business income — which includes F&O — used ITR-3. The ITR-2 capital gains walkthrough covers the schedules.
The right account. Only trades in the demat and trading account held in the HUF's name and PAN are the HUF's income. A Karta who trades "for the HUF" from his personal account has, in the eyes of the tax department, traded for himself. It is one of the most common errors in HUF returns, and no platform can catch it for you — the broker P&L you upload is the one the software believes.
The HUF's own exemptions and rates. The HUF is a separate assessee. It gets its own ₹1.25 lakh exemption on long-term gains from listed equity and equity mutual funds, with 12.5% tax on the excess and 20% on short-term equity gains. The STCG and LTCG explainer has the full rate table.
Clubbing awareness. Money or assets a member transfers into the HUF without adequate consideration can have their income clubbed back with the member. This does not show up in a broker P&L at all. It is a question of where the HUF's corpus came from, and it is covered in the HUF tax planning guide.
If you are planning now, you are planning for Tax Year 2026-27 (FY 2026-27 — the return you file in 2027, earlier called AY 2027-28).
# Quicko — what its own pages say (checked 23 September 2026)
Do-it-yourself filing. Quicko's pricing page lists three single-pass plans. Basic is free and covers salary, house property and other-sources income, up to a total income of ₹12 lakh. Essential adds capital gains and presumptive business income. Elite covers all income sources including foreign income, and lists "ITR with Audit & Notice Support". Capital gains filing is available on Essential and Elite, not on Basic. On the day we checked, the pricing page listed Essential at ₹999 and Elite at ₹1,499, while the homepage showed Elite at ₹1,299 — so confirm the price at checkout.
Broker connections. The homepage shows Zerodha, Upstox, Groww, Angel One, Dhan and 5paisa among the apps it connects to for importing investment and trading data. That is a wider published broker list than VittSphere ONE's, and it is a genuine strength if your HUF trades through one of the brokers VittSphere ONE does not list.
HUF — through experts, not DIY. HUF support sits in Quicko Meet, its expert-assisted service. The HUF page lists:
- HUF registration — guidance on eligibility, deed preparation, PAN application and registration with the tax department. Displayed price ₹2,999, shown against a struck-through ₹3,499.
- ITR for HUF — an expert files the HUF's return covering all income sources, including preparation of a profit and loss statement and balance sheet. Displayed price ₹4,999, against ₹5,499.
- Bank account opening assistance with partner banks.
A co-branded Zerodha x Quicko HUF page also offers opening a demat account for the HUF with Zerodha, alongside the same registration and filing services.
On whether HUF returns can be self-filed, a Quicko team member answered on its Q&A forum in August 2025 that HUF filing is offered through expert assistance rather than the DIY option. Treat that as the position at the time it was posted.
Who the experts are. Quicko Meet describes its professionals as tax experts; some profiles shown are Chartered Accountants. The pages do not state that every expert is a CA.
Notice support. The homepage describes "Free expert help if you get a notice". What that covers in practice is best confirmed with Quicko directly.
Where Quicko is strong, on its own evidence: a genuinely free DIY tier for simple returns, the widest published broker list of the two, a public learning site and tax Q&A forum, and an HUF flow that runs from registration through demat opening to an expert-filed return, with prices published upfront.
# VittSphere ONE — what it offers
VittSphere ONE is built by a practising CA and approaches the HUF from the planning end first.
- HUF Tax Planning and full HUF setup — eligibility, deed, PAN, bank account, corpus strategy and ongoing compliance.
- HUF calculator — whether an HUF saves your family tax, and roughly how much, before you form one.
- Capital Gains Tracker — broker P&L import from Zerodha, Upstox and Groww.
- CA-reviewed ITR filing — a Chartered Accountant reviews the return before it is submitted.
- ARTHA — an AI CFO chat in Hinglish or English that answers tax, HUF and capital gains questions with the relevant section.
- Around it: Family Portfolio View and Net Worth Tracker, which show the HUF alongside individual members; the Advance Tax Planner; and Tax Planning Intelligence for the coming year.
Every plan feature is free for all users until 31 March 2027, with no card required. One practical point on timing: the HUF's return for Tax Year 2026-27 is filed in 2027, after that date. So the free period mainly covers setting up, planning and tracking the year; check the terms that apply when you actually file.

# Who should pick which
Quicko is likely the better fit if:
- You want to self-file your individual return and your situation is simple enough for a free tier.
- Your HUF trades through Angel One, Dhan or 5paisa, which appear on Quicko's published list and not on VittSphere ONE's.
- You already use Zerodha and want the co-branded route that includes opening the HUF's demat.
- You want a fixed, published price for an expert to handle the HUF's registration and return end to end.
VittSphere ONE is likely the better fit if:
- You have not yet decided whether an HUF makes sense, and want to run the numbers and plan the corpus before forming one.
- You want the HUF's capital gains tracked through the year alongside the family's other holdings, not assembled at filing time.
- You want a Chartered Accountant to review the return before submission.
- You prefer to ask questions in Hinglish and get an answer tied to the relevant section.
Either will do if your HUF trades through Zerodha, Upstox or Groww and you want professional help with the return. Then the deciding factors are practical: who you find easier to work with, and what each charges on the day you file.
# Five questions to ask before you pay either one
- Is HUF filing included in the plan or service I am buying, or is it a separate product?
- Which broker P&L formats are accepted, and what happens if my HUF's broker is not on the list?
- Who reviews the return — a CA, a tax expert, or software — and before or after submission?
- If a notice arrives, what is covered and what is charged separately?
- What is the price on the day I file, for the exact tier my return needs?
Plan the HUF before you file for it. Run the HUF calculator, set up the HUF's Capital Gains Tracker, and ask ARTHA the questions your CA would ask. Start free →
